Immenstadt – Adhesive tape manufacturer Monta filed for insolvency proceedings under self-administration with the Kempten Local Court on July 16, 2026. The company intends to continue its ongoing restructuring and reorganize its financing. However, Monta has not cited a single specific cause. Production and the company’s foreign subsidiaries will continue to operate for the time being; consequently, around 150 jobs are secured for the moment. Nevertheless, without a long-term investor, the company’s future beyond January 2027 remains uncertain.
Court Reviews Self-Administration for Long-Established Company
On July 17, the local court appointed Munich-based attorney Marco Liebler as an expert examiner. He is currently assessing the prerequisites for provisional self-administration. No final court decision had been issued at the time the company announcement was published.

Under the self-administration process, management continues to run the business itself. However, a court-appointed supervisor oversees the proceedings and safeguards the creditors’ interests. Restructuring experts Vincenz von Braun and Gregorio Calocero are also supporting Monta as general representatives. CRO Gunther Gerlach is assisting Managing Director Lars Böhrnsen with the commercial and operational continuation of the business.
Adhesive tape production continues despite insolvency
Monta is continuing to manufacture adhesive tape and—according to the company—is fully processing existing orders. However, current financing is secured only until at least the end of January 2027. The primary lender has also pledged further support during the self-administration proceedings. The subsidiaries in Hungary and Romania are not directly affected by the German proceedings.
At the same time, Monta is launching a structured investor process. The existing shareholders are supporting the search but will not participate in the new solution; consequently, a buyer or new investor will play a decisive role in the company’s long-term survival. Representatives of the creditors, suppliers, and workforce also support the chosen restructuring strategy.
Product Range and Production Being Reorganized
The company is streamlining its product portfolio and revising its order processing operations. In addition, Monta aims to make production more efficient and expand its international sales. However, management has not specified concrete cost-saving targets, nor has it released details regarding planned job cuts.
This process is of significant economic importance to Immenstadt. Monta employs around 150 people there and manufactures natural rubber-based adhesive tape. The company also exports its products to more than 50 countries. Its corporate history dates back to the founding of a twine factory in 1855. ELF Capital had previously financed a change of ownership and provided additional working capital in 2022. Nevertheless, Monta now requires a long-term financing solution once again.
