Once again, Economics Minister Robert Habeck calls on the citizens of the state to save energy and also sets a target. “As a rule of thumb, I would say: Ten percent savings are always possible,” says Habeck. He even makes concrete suggestions as to where savings should be made. Habeck’s tips are intended to help citizens save energy.
Citizens should save even more energy
Habeck wants to launch a large-scale campaign to encourage citizens to save energy. “We can only become less dependent on Russian imports if we see it as a big joint project in which we all participate,” says the minister. If everyone takes the train instead of the car or uses the bicycle, everyone could save their wallet and also annoy Putin with it.
Habeck’s tips: Draw the curtains and lower the room temperature
As if that were not enough, Habeck also gives further advice. You can draw the curtains in your flat and save five per cent on heating costs. He also recommends lowering the room temperature by one degree, which would save another six per cent. According to Habeck, you wouldn’t even freeze.
In addition, Habeck also recommends that people leave their cars at home in order to become less dependent on Russian energy sources. To get as many cars off the road as possible, he appealed to employers to offer employees more home offices to save energy.
Many already have to choose between eating and heating
Listening to Habeck like this, one could almost believe that people in our country are wasting energy in ignorance. Yet people in the middle and lower income brackets already have to turn over every cent twice. Many pensioners, students, Hartz IV recipients and many more are already faced with the choice of eating or heating. The cost of living has virtually exploded in recent months. Not only have energy costs risen, but also all other daily necessities. Especially the prices of food. Asking people to save even more with the above proposals is more than mere arrogance, it is much more evidence of an inability to get a grip on the energy supply situation.
